We all have things we want to achieve in life. The route to success is to turn those dreams and wishes into reality. This one-day workshop will lead participants through thinking about their goals, planning, and taking action to achieve the things they really want. They will learn methods that ensure they reach their destination.

Learning Objectives

After you complete this course, you will be able to:

  1. Identify what is important to you in your life
  2. Use goal-setting activities and appropriate language to articulate what you want in your life
  3. Explain what your dreams and goals are for both the short and long term
  4. Use motivating techniques to help you reach your goals
  5. Understand how to deal with setbacks

Course Content

Course Content

Session Two: Pre-Assignment Review
As a pre-assignment, you were asked to read an article about setting goals. In this session, you will review your pre-assignment and think about where you currently are in relation to goal setting.

Session Three: Self-Understanding
In order to learn how to set goals, it is essential to understand their value. In this session, you will explore the importance of goal setting. The role of a mentor or coach will also be discussed.

Session Four: Laying the Foundation
In this session, you will explore how to identify their values and create a personal vision statement.

Session Five: What is in Your Bucket?
In this session, you will look at the bucket list, which is a long-term plan. You will also have an opportunity to begin creating their own bucket list.

Session Six: Getting Down to Business
In this session, you will think about what areas of your life you want to set goals for. You will also explore the SMART acronym, which outlines the elements of good goals.

Session Seven: Getting Started Today
In this session, you will learn some ways to motivate yourself and beat procrastination. Visualization techniques, action plans, and support systems will also be discussed.

Session Eight: Dealing With Setbacks
In the final session of this course, participants will learn some coping strategies for when things get in the way of achieving their goals.

Personal Action Plan
In this session, you will be asked questions to help you plan your short-term and long-term goals. This final exercise is a way for you to synthesize the learning that you have done and to put it into practice.
